The New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) has recently announced that Local Law 144 of 2021, AKA the NYC Bias Audit law, has had the date at which it will be enforced postponed. The law which was due to take effect and be enforced from 1 January 2023 will now come into force on 5 July2023. Due to a high volume of public comments received regarding the law and to allow the planning and completion of a second hearing on the bill. You can find the full announcement here.
The NYC Bias Audit law requires companies that use automated tools to hire candidates or promote employees within New York City to have these tools independently audited for bias on an annual basis.
